1st ANNUAL TITAN CHALLENGE
Friday September 25th - 26 Sat, 2010


Dear Coach:

We would like to invite you to our 1st Annual Titan Challenge. This two day Varsity Volleyball Tournament will begin 4pm on Friday September 5th & end Saturday September 6th.

The format for this tournament will be traditional pool play on Friday evening and a qualifying round and bracket play on Saturday. Each match will be rally scoring to 25, best two games out of three. Game three, if necessary, will be to 15 points. There will be no caps.

We are currently accepting sign ups for the Titan Challenge. We have 11 spots available.

A $300.00 entry fee will be charged per team.

SCHEDULE:
• Friday - 3:30pm Coaches meeting, with play beginning at 4pm.
o Half the pool will be completed on Friday.
• Saturday – 8am Final part of pool play will be played.
• Single elimination for the Winners & Consolation Bracket will follow.
POOL PLAY:
• There will be 3 pools of 4 teams.
• Traditional pool play & seeding procedures will be followed.
• Each team will play 2 out of 3* games to 25, win by 2, no cap.
*3rd game will be one game to 15, win by 2, no cap.
WARM-UP PROCEDURES:
• Ten minutes between matches.
o Each team will have five minutes for hitting and serving.
OFFICIATING:
• CIF officials will referee all games.
• Each team will provide 1 libero tracker, 2 scorekeepers & 2 linesmen.
• If team is late to assignment, an automatic 5 point penalty will be assessed to team in the first game of next match.
o On Saturday, the losing team will remain on its court to officiate the next match.
VOLLEYBALLS:
• On each of the 3 courts, there will be one cart with 20 balls.
o If this is sufficient for your team, then you do not have to bring volleyballs.
SINGLE ELIMINATION PLAYOFF:
• The top 2 teams in each pool will advance to the Winners Bracket.
• 3rd & 4th place teams will be placed in the Consolation Bracket.
• The playoffs will be 2 out of 3* games to 25, win by 2, no cap.
*3rd game will be one game to 15, win by 2, no cap.
TRAINING SERVICES:
• A certified trainer will be at the site throughout the tournament.
ADMISSION:
• Admission to the tournament will be $6.00 per day for adults and $4.00 per day for students.
AWARDS:
• Team trophies for 1st, 2nd & Consolation Bracket winners.
• MVP and All-Tournament team.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES:
Two Teams with Identical Match Records:
• Use head to head results.
Three Teams with Identical Match Records:
• In a pool with 2 teams advancing and a 3 way tie in match record for 1st
o In a 4-team pool all tied teams are 2-1 in match record
o In a 3-team pool all teams are 1-1 in match record).
• The team with the best games/points percentage record will be ranked as the first (1st) place team in that pool and will ref a single tie breaking game to 25 points between the other two teams.
o If the 1st place team leaves the site and does not fulfill the officiating assignment, that team will be regulated to 3rd place and no other penalty will be applied.
• In a pool with 2 teams advancing and a 3 way tie in match record for 2nd (in a 4-team pool all tied teams are 1-2 in match record).
• All 3 teams will participate in tie breaking games.
o Each game will be a single tie breaking game to 25 points.
o The seeds for the tie breaking playoffs will be determined by sequential application of:
1. Won-Loss ratio for the total number of games played in the pool
o Wins divided by total games played.
2. Point Percentage (a team's total points scored divided by the total points scored by opponents in that pool).
3. Coin Toss
• The #2 seed will play the #3 seed; the #1 seed will ref.
• The loser of this game will be 4th place in the pool and will ref the next tie breaking game.
• The winner of the first game will play the #1 seed.
• The winner of this game will be 2nd in the pool and the loser will be 3rd.
• If one of the three teams in a tied pool leaves the site before the determination that a tiebreak is necessary.
o That team will automatically become the 4th place team and the other 2 teams will play 1 tie breaking game.

SPECIAL NOTES:
• In case a team must withdraw from the tournament on Saturday, that team's last opponent will advance.
MATCH TIMES:
• Matches will not begin before the scheduled time. Matches may begin prior to the scheduled time only on Friday during pool play and only if both coaches agree to do so.
PROTESTS:
• If a protest is made, it must be made under the following guidelines:
o Before the next ball is served.
o Only the coach or floor captain can protest.
o Judgment calls cannot be protested.
• Protest issues will be handled in the following sequence:
1. Referee on the stand
2. Head Official - John Isel
3. Tournament Committee
