1. alba

2. bryophyte [mosses]

3. cultivar [A cultivar is a plant or grouping of plants selected for desirable characteristics that can be maintained by propagation]

4. dicots [A flowering plant with two embryonic seed leaves or cotyledons that usually appear at germination.]

5. embyota [embyro]

6. Linnaeus [Carl - "Father of Taxonomy" ]

7. mesic [In ecology, a mesic habitat is a type of habitat with a moderate or well-balanced supply of moisture]

8. monocots [Monocots are a class of flowering plants with most parts appearing in multiples of three. ]

9. pendula [A body suspended from a fixed support so that it swings freely back and forth under the influence of gravity,]

10 plantae [ the taxonomic kingdom comprising all plants.]

11 pterobphyta [The Pterophyta are the second largest division of the plant kingdom.]

12 spermatophyta [A phylum embracing the highest plants, or those that produce seeds; the seed plants, or flowering plants.]

Unit 16 terms to know for test:

physiology - study of the functions and vital processes of living creatures and their organs

chlorophyll - green pigment in leaves

respiration - a process in which energy and carbon dioxide are released due to digestion or the breakdown of plant tissues during periods of darkness

transpiration - process by which as plant loses water vapor

macronutrients - elements used in relatively large quantities

Unit 17 terms to know:

propagation - process of inceasing the number of a species or perpetuating a species

sexual reproduction - union of an egg and sperm to produce a seed or a fertilized egg

asexual reproduction - propgration utilizing a part or parts of one parent plant

vegetation - plant parts such as stems, leaves, roots, and buds, but not flowers, fruits and seeds.

germinate - a seed sprouting or starting to grow.

dormant - resting stage; no active growth

cuttings - vegetative part removed from the parent plant and managed so that it will regenerate itself.
