2)  Q "Alert! Cover was previously removed.", when starting the computer
A
The system is equipped with a sensor that will automatically notify the user when the system case cover has been removed. This message may have been activated when recent work or an update might have been done on the system by one of our technicians. The alert message will not disrupt the performance, hardware, and files stored on the hard drive.

5)  Q GROUPWISE - I cannot access GroupWise from home.
A
When you attempt to access GroupWise from the LMUSD website, are you using Internet Explorer by clicking on the blue "e"on the desktop? Be sure you have theversion 6.0of Internet Explorer. You may confirm this by opening Internet Explorer, in the menu bar click 'Help', then'about Internet Explorer'.
If you are using AOL be sure you are not using the version of Internet Explorer in AOL. Once connected to AOL, justminimize the AOLwindow and then click on the blue "e" (the Internet Explorer icon) on your desktop.
Do you havea toolbarinstalled (i.e. Google, Yahoo) or any other application that may block pop-up advertisements? If so, you may try disabling the pop-up blocking feature.
To turn off pop-up blocking in Internet Explorer 6.0, click on Tools>Pop-Up Blocker>Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker.

6)  Q GROUPWISE - Since the upgrade to GroupWise WebAccess version 7, I'm having to log in twice.
A
Confirm that you do not have the yahoo toolbar and/or google toolbar installed. The toolbars contain options like pop-blocking that may disrupt the login process in GroupWise and other applications that the District uses.

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Do the Yahoo and/or Google toolbars appear near the address bar (area for entering website addresses)?
3. If yes, Click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs
4. In the list of programs installed search and click on Google toobar to select it.
5. Then click on the Change/Remove button. This will remove the program from the system.
6. Repeat 4 and 5 for the Yahoo toolbar if you have it.

Be sure Autocomplete disabled in Internet Explorer. When the options in Autocomplete are 'ON' they can interfere with the GroupWise login process. In addition, for security purposes it is not a good idea to have the browser remember information you input when you fill out online forms/applications and when you input your login information for any accounts (i.e. E-mail, confidential databases, financial accounts)

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click Tools>Internet Options
3. Click the "Contents" tab
4. Click the "AutoComplete" button.
5. Uncheck "Webaddresses", "Forms", and "User names and passwords on forms"
6. Click the "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords buttons"
7. Click "OK"

7)  Q NOVELL - How can I change my password without waiting for the system to ask me to change it?
A
On Windows XP workstations, after logging in successfully into Novell, hold down the [CTRL] and [ALT] keys and press the [DEL] key at the same time. The Netware Security window will appear. Click on the "Change Password" button. You will then enter your current password once and then enter your new password twice.

8)  Q PRINTERS - Printer does not print and no error message window appears.
A
Possible printer memory overflow common in smaller deskjet printers. If you cannot delete the current print jobs attempt the following:
  1. Power down the computer and the printer.
  2. Unplug the POWER to the printer.
  3. Wait for 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Plug the POWER back into the printer but do NOT power it up.
  5. Power up the computer and login as usual.
  6. Once at the desktop, power on printer then attempt a print job.
9)  Q WINDOWS - The computer cannot boot into Windows, halts, and displays "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart" or "Non-system disk or disk error"
A
If any one of these messages appear:
  • "NTLDR is missing. Press any key to restart"
  • "Non-system disk or disk error"
  • "Invalid system disk"
  • "Please insert a boot disk"
  • "Please insert a valid boot disk and press any key"
  • "Hard disk boot sector invalid"
  • "No ROM BASIC-System halted"
Be sure there is not a disk in the floppy drive. An unbootable disk may prevent the computer from accessing the hard drive and generate this error message. Remove the floppy disk and press any key to continue to start up the computer. If pressing any key does not continue with the start up process, simply restart the computer.
