How to become a school volunteer, and what does it mean...

Q.  What can the volunteers do for the school?

A.  Volunteers can assist in classrooms for special functions, help supervise field trips and afterschool functions, and drive students to and from school functions.

 Q.  What are the requirements to be a volunteer?

A.  All parents wanting to become a volunteer must fill out a Volunteer Data Form which can be found at the bottom of this page or at every school office, be fingerprinted through SLOCOE, and have a valid T.B. test on file.

Q.  What is the cost for fingerprinting?

A.  SLOCOE fingerprint fees are $60.00, but are subject to change.  You can pay by cash, check, or credit card.

Q.  How do I make an appointment for fingerprinting?

A.  You must call for an appointment.  Appointments are only available on certain days designated by SLOCOE from 8am to 5pm.  You may call (805) 782-7236 to set up an appointment.

Q.  How long does it take for my fingerprints to clear?

A.  Generally processing time is 3-5 business days.  However, if somene has a prior conviction on his/her record it may take up to 30 days or longer.

Q.  Can I get fingerprinted at the police department?  It's so much cheaper.

A.  No.  The police department does not send clearances to the District.

Q.  Where can I get a T.B. test done?

A.  Each year Student Services provides two testing dates, generally once in the beginning of the year and one mid-year.  These are provided at no cost to you.  However, if you need to have a T.B. test donew outside of the dates scheduled, you can have a T.B. test done at MedPlus, CHC, your personal physician, or the county health department.  Most outside agencies charge approximately $20.00 for a T.B. Skin test.

Q.  I only plan to volunteer for one event.  Do I really need to go through all of this?

A.  Yes.  All volunteers in any capacity must have all of the prerequisites completed and on file with the Human Resources Office.

Q.  I have been fingerpinted by SLOCOE and have a copy of my T.B. test.  Now what?

A.  You will need to turn in a copy of your receipt from SLOCOE verifying your fingerprints along with a copy of your T.B. test to the school office or to Human Resources.  If you are turning paperwork into Human Resources, you must note on your paperwork what school site you will be volunteering at.  That is the school site we will notify once your fingerprint clearance has been received.
