AGHS Graduation Requirements
Each student must earn a minimum of 235 credits. These specific requirements include:
ENGLISH...................................................................................40 credits Must include: English Composition or Pre-AP English 9-------------------------------------------------10 credits World Literature or Pre-AP English 10---------------------------------------------------10 credits American Literature or AP Language/Comp---------------------------------------------10 credits Senior Expository Read & Write or AP Literature/Composition----------------------10 credits
VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS/FOREIGN LANGUAGE..............................10 credits
HEALTH.....................................................................................5 credits MATH......................................................................................30 credits Of the 30 math credits required, 20 credits must be completed in the math department, including the completion of Algebra I.
P.E..........................................................................................20 credits All 9th grade students are required by the State of California to take the Fitnessgram tests between February 1 and March 31 each year. Students who pass 5 of the 6 fitness testing categories must complete 20 units of P.E. credits. Students who DO NOT pass 5 of the 6 fitness testing categories are required by State law to complete 40 units of PE credits. Students who do not pass the Fitnessgram testing will have an opportunity in each subsequent year, during the regularly scheduled testing period, to pass.
SCIENCE...................................................................................20 credits Of the 20 science credits required, 10 credits must be completed in the Science Department.
SOCIAL SCIENCE.........................................................................30 credits Must include: World History, Geography, & World Cultures------------------------------------------10 credits U.S. History---------------------------------------------------------------------------------10 credits American Government----------------------------------------------------------------------5 credits Economics------------------------------------------------------------------------------------5 credits
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Community Service: Juniors -10 hours Seniors -10 hours
COMPETENCY ASSESSMENTS Successful completion of the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) and Algebra I. Juniors and/or Seniors who have not successfully passed the CAHSEE will be required to enroll in a mandatory CAHSEE Review class.
