What do you get when you combine excellent teachers, hard working students, and an emphasis on academic achievement? Oceano Elementary School!
Our focus is to ensure Oceano students are provided the tools essential for school success. We believe all of our Dolphins can and will achieve. When I first came to our school in August of 2009, I was immediately impressed with the strong veteran teaching staff in place. Our teams meet regularly to evaluate student progress and plan new lesson ideas. Our teachers believe that they have to be their best at all times to be sure our students are successful. Our state test scores support the fruits of these efforts; they continue to improve each year.
Our Oceano Dolphins themselves have an outstanding tradition of working hard to be successful! Our students have the opportunity to begin their school careers early in one of two preschool programs. They move to our kindergarten classes and begin the first of four rigorous years of early literacy and math instruction. Upon reaching fourth grade, our students begin three years of AVID based programs that introduce the essentials that prepare them for the college prep programs of the secondary level. Students at Oceano work hard and work proud! They are amazing kids.
Another innovative program that was established at Oceano School several years ago is Character Counts. With common language and regular discussion, the students and staff focus on six character traits: caring, responsibility; respect, fairness, trustworthiness, and citizenship.
I truly appreciate the school setting we come to each day. We can see the beautiful Oceano Dunes, hear the train whistles blow, and see small planes glide slowly into the local airport. We are in a town known for the Melodrama and beach cruising, farming, and many quaint community stores and eateries.
What I appreciate even more is the supportive community of hard working families who chose to send their children to our school. With the backing of families, our hard working staff and students, and ideal setting of the central coast, Oceano Elementary is a great place for students! Ron Walton , Principal |
