Archery Safety
1. Develop safety consciousness. THINK SAFETY FIRST! Archery is not dangerous, people are. 2. Shoot only in designated areas. 3. Follow the directions of the instructor at all times. Never shoot or retrieve an arrow until the signal is given. 4. Never point an arrow, nocked or not, at another person. The bow and arrow are a potential weapon and should be treated as such at all times. 5. Aim only at your own target. Never shoot straight up or in any direction where damage may be done. 6. Do not Over-draw or Dry-fire. 7. Avoid wearing clothes and jewelry that may catch the bow string. 8.
Etiquette in archery is a form of safety. Making loud noise when someone is shooting is rude and unsafe. Whispering
is accepted. 9. When removing arrows from the target, place one hand against the target face and around the arrow, place the other hand on the arrow as close to the target face as possible. Pull the arrow from the target at the same angle it entered. If the arrow is deeply embedded, twist it a few times to loosen it and then pull it out.
