This year is going by so fast, it's hard to believe that we are near the end of the year already. State testing is only one week away! Please make sure you get plenty of sleep (at least 8 hours), eat a healthy, balanced breakfast (don't forget the protein!), and come to school ready to "Show what you know!!!!"

Doing your best on the tests is very important. Your scores on state testing are used to help the middle, and then high school, make decisions about your academic path. The better you do, the more input you will have as to what your electives will be.

In science, we are learning about the way the world works. We have studied biomes, plate tectonics, and how energy is dispersed! We know the sun provides for our basic energy on earth. Where would we be without it?

In our study of ancient civilizations, we are learning about Egypt. Our study has included the development of their written language and modern- day understanding of it, the process of mummification and the reasons for it, and the development of their burial tombs. So far, Egypt seems to be everyone's favorite!

Sixth grade math is very challenging! One of the areas that keeps popping up for us is proportions! We see them in word problems, in probability, in ratios, and in the use of scale! We write "word proportions" first, so we don't make any mistakes. We know to "plug and chug," which means: put in the numbers that you know and then work the problem from there, and we know... "whatever you do to the bottom of the problem, you do to the top of the problem!" These rules help us cut our huge math problems down to size!!!
