Journey to Africa

This year Oceano Library students will be taking a trip to the continent of Africa.  This will be a trip using books, art, music, and our imaginations. We have learned to say hello in Kiswahili, Jambo!  We are learning to count from 1 - 10 in Kiswahili.

1 = moja 6 = sita

2 = mbili   7 = saba

3 = tatu   8 = nane

4 = nne 9 = tisa

5 = tano  10 = kumi

On the race track we have a close race between Mr. Machado, Mr. Gonyer, and Mrs. Dreizler's classes.  On the class point chart Mr. Machado and Mr. Gonyer's classes are neck and neck.  We have a few sixth grade students with over 50 points.  Wow!  We are off to a fast start this year!

Mrs. O's Reading List

The Alchemyst Series by Michael Scott.  There are four books published, two more on the way.  If you love mythology and fast-paced action, this is the series for you. 

The Underland Chronicles Series by Suzanne Collins.  Five books in the series.  Gregor and his baby sister fall into a world underground.  Over-sized creatures and humans with violet-colored eyes live there.  Gregor's wits are needed to keep the peace in the Underland.

Hatchet, The River, Brian's Winter by Gary Paulsen.  I love his story-telling!  High adventure, survival stories that take place in the Eastern Canadian wilderness.

The Voyage of the Frog by Gary Paulsen.  Something a little closer to home.  Young teenage boy sails by himself off the coast of California.  Things go wrong!

Scaredy Squirrel Series by Melanie Watt.  Poor Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of everything.  He believes he is prepared for any terrible thing that could possibly happen, but ...
