Last March selected students from grades 2, 4 and 5 participated in a very special reading and writing project using Jeff Brown's classic book, Flat Stanley, with Ms. Miller and Mrs Packer, an Ocean View volunteer. The students created their own "Flat Friends" and helped these new friends travel around Ocean View School, just as Flat Stanley traveled in the book. The students kept a journal about who and what they saw while exploring the school. They also checked out a book from a different genre each week to read at home and discuss at the group's next meeting. Their book recommendations for each grade level are listed in the library. We ended our 6 week reading and writing exploration with a flat food party and shared our photos - to be posted later on this site.
